Dear friends,
I’ve been quite quiet these last few months. Since October of last year, I’ve had an awful chesty cough that has only just begun to clear. The persistent cough affected ability to sing, and it’s taken time to heal, which it finally is doing.
I’m writing to share something very close to me. On Friday 13th March,(not an unlucky date according to the Sufis) I will be releasing my first ever song on all major platforms except Spotify, whose platform remains unfair to musicians. “The Sea” will also be available to buy and download on Bandcamp.
Alongside the release, a lyric video will premiere on my YouTube channel at 8am the same day.
“The Sea” was recorded in 2001 during Music Makers, a residential weekend in Bournemouth created by the Job Centre to support and nurture musicians. That weekend we were visited by Sir George Martin, the legendary producer of The Beatles. His presence and his words stayed with many of us, quietly shaping the music that followed.
Fellow musicians added to the track, Gavin Sant on percussion and Lucy Fleming on bass guitar. After many years tucked away, “The Sea” is finally stepping into the light.
This release also carries a deeper meaning for me. This year, three dear friends passed away, including Patrick Moss, who was such a generous supporter of my music. He regularly played my songs on his Frome FM radio show, Magpie’s Folk Café, and once even drove me all the way to Birmingham so I could perform on British Muslim TV. Their passing has stirred something in me, a desire to my music more available to others.

So I dedicate this release to all those who have returned home, like a raindrop returning to the sea.
With love,
Sarah
